I'm currently going through a motivation dip. Which looking at this forum made me wonder what the anonymous mass of you do to motivate yourselves when in a lull? Some things I have tried are thinking about the money (not a very successful motivator for me though), and going for a ride on my motorbike to put a smile on my face! How about you?

Loud techno music in the car and driving fastUpgrade of the ICE in aboveGetting active - few press-ups, something that at least feels like a fitness routineLocal community events/fairs/libraryTime off/holidayClear my desk and wipe out anything that's getting me downLearn a new skill, e.g. swimming or frenchAnd top tip of all.... spending time around NICE people. It's the bad cookies that often make you feel down in the first place

People do all sorts to pick themselves up although most just delay the pain e.g.Drink AlcoholCiggarettes JointsLinesStrip Clubs
These are short term and numb the pain for a short period only.
I try and surround myself with friends outside of work and indeed consulting so that I get a refreshing look on the world. Motivation is different for each person but for me money is the ultimate.

Just think of the proverbial child in Africa! He is not getting any healthier and would happily swap places with you.
Personally I think all university students should take a year out to visit Africa - that will be all the motivation you need to get on in life. When you realise that that child is in a disadvantaged position so that you can be in your privileged position, you will never complain again. Think about it, what does England actually have/produce? Nothing! Oil, Diamonds and Gold are stolen from Africa (ok - purchased at a low price, but that is the same thing). Then Africa has a bad harvest and cannot cope and there you are with your cushdy consulting job pissing about with PowerPoint and getting paid £50K.
Wake up you muppet, the reason why a third world exists is because the first world exists.
Now tell me you miserable f*ck, o you still need motivating now?

Corporate Whore, for me to present a comprehensive argument, I would need to type 1000's of lines of text with reference to historical acts etc. There may be room for debate around some of the issues raised but the basic theme is true. The Bristish Empire robbed the world and now the world is in London earning their money back. Think Windies Rush, African students, India etc. I mean even the Crown Jewels are stolen (literally)! For one person to be richer, the other must be poorer. England and the US deserve all they get! Have all the concerts you want but you won't help the proverbial child till you start to return what your ancestors plundered.

Not pointless at all. Just saying that the basic theme is true. Somehow I feel I have hijacked this thread - it was all to do with motivation and I am simply stating that the proverbial child is motivation enough for me.

you obviously hasn't got the slightest grasp of psychology. humans measure their achievements by comparison with their peers. this has a powerful bearing on happiness. I agree with you that thinking about a starving african child could motivate you but for most people only if they were from the same background.I suspect the original poster would probably compare himself more to successful oxbridge grads.

return what we plundered. We have we gave you lot Robert Mugabwe and that other nutter in charge of security in South Africa.Robert Mugabwe took everything back, and now his people are so happy. The rainbow nation is a positive indictment to racial harmony and suffers no reverse racism whatsoever. And the largest slave drivers?Well the africans themselves dear boy!Go read a book or something, wash your hair, brush your teeth.

ets put the proverbial child in India. What have we given them?India was once the centre of the world, excelling in mathematics, the arts and literature. India gave the world many things and still does. India used to take care of its poor and maligned, until religion and the caste sytem destroyed this.It should however be noted that india is and always has been a first world country, it is just harder to manage due to the sheer number of people and the logistics. The only civilization not destroyed by religion is chritianity, and that because most supposed 'christians' choose to ignore this religion.May also answer part of the 'Africa' question. If we look at religion it was quite usefull for those who wished to use it to conquer as in the middle ages life was hard and those who adopted christianity were promised something better in the next life, this led to revolts and eventually the monarchy having to adopt religion to avoid being lynched.

The world is in London to get its money back? You mean the world is educating people who move to London pay taxes to educate the Brits, make more money for British based business, who pay tax to Britain, who make money for the share holders via direct holdings, pension funds, hedge funds or their bank interest, and guess what, they pay tax in Britain. We Brits, be they White, Black, Yellow, Brown or even little Green men are getting a good deal out of all this.

"anon 3/8/2007" had some good tips, I thought.I like to cycle in to work freakishly early. The endorphins make me happy, and it's nice to have a lot of work completed before others arrive for the day.Even doing it for just a couple of days can make for a pleasant break in routine.
