Deloitte rejection reason a Joke

I went for the deloitte assessment centre as an experienced hire. My interviews and case study went very well as did the group case study. i took lots of initiative and took a lead in the discussions making sure my point of view was taken. I knew i had done well and was expecting an offer but to my surprise i did not ,instead they gave me a feedback that i was QUIET in the case discussion !! and thats the reason for rejection . i was surprised at this .I am now confused and left with a thought that even top consultancies can give any standard reason for rejection which doesn't make any sense.I am wondering should I apply again to a different department ?

Maybe it's just that you're too arrogant for them; your message certainly suggests so.

I'm afraid you will find such excuses used in rejection letters from firms like this. Unfortunately the more honest "Sorry, anon, we thought you were a pratt" doesn't seem to be used as much these days...

I disagree with hmm. You don't come across as arrogant. If it was an assessment centre, I think you'd be well within your rights to call and ask for more detailed feedback. There may be genuine reasons, such as lack of 'fit', or it might be that you lost out in the numbers game - they had recruited enough people already.

I disagree with the arrogance - these statements may come across as arrogant but often assessment centres are a 'paint by numbers' or 'tick box' job - you can train yourself how to do well and identify these points during it and on self reflection as you come out. Ive done about 8 assessment centres before and 90% of the time I knew if I got in or not. It may be the case they didnt think you'll generally fit in . Maybe ask for more feedback but dont be surprised if you dont get it.Good luck

Tactical Strike, Have you ever reviewed a piece of work and a) been happy with your performance, and b) expected that your boss would like it and appreciate the work that went into it? I read"....these are arrogant assumptions to make are they not?"and imagined that it was proof-read with a smug grin and a purr.

Actually I didn't need to proof-read my message as I knew I had written it well and was therefore expecting the board to appreciate the work that went into it.Miaow!

Back to the point

Deloitte, unfortunately, have 'form' in this area already, interviewing candidates they don't intend to employ, and relying on very fickle justifications for rejections - but hey, it's their choice. Search other threads to see...

There is a thin line between being confident and being arrogant . what I meant in my original message was that I was confident of my performance . Its not a big deal to analyse it through comparisons with your previous interviews and reflection.

If you treated the assessment centre as 'tick the boxes' or 'paint by numbers', you probably came across as being thin on content. I have seen plenty of people come into an assessment centre and, while they participate actively, they add little original contribution of their own.I wasn't there for your assessment centre, so I can't comment on what I didn't see, but it could be that you came across as being heavy on participation, light on content.

these things are a bloody lottery anyway. at the end of the day, you're dealing with the subjectivity of people. Not trivialising the issue but if the interviewer didnt like your tie, he might have dinged you. As simple as that. Perhaps your personality clashed with that of the interviewer.OR...perhaps...other people did better than you did (no, surely not).Your options:-create a fuss and DC will think 'God what a nice chap, course you can come in'-Learn from the experience and apply elsewhere. If you are all that, you should have no probs mate.

I agree - he is not arrogant at ALL. After all, arrogance is, and I quote:"Arrogance is a drinking game of chance which can be played with any number of players. Play passes around a circle, with the current player adding an amount of his drink to the central glass. The amount added is up to the player, and can be thought of as a form of "bet". Adding only a little drink, especially to a fairly empty glass, is a small bet as this will be easy to drink if necessary. ..."Not my words - but the words of Wikipedia my friends!

Just to give you a chuckle, one of my friends applied to a recruitment consultanvy and was told "you are the best candidate for the job but we have a lot of international clients and we don't think they'd like your Scottish accent!"

Hard Reality
14.08.7 00:00

I would not criticise the poster for the info given. He/she clearly gave it some thought and tried damned hard in the interview. These things are not a precise science and it is often not the person, who stands up who takes the lead, who is chosen. It does seem as if the poster has received a standard reject letter, or possibly one intended for someone else. There is a case for a polite enquiry to check that the feedback was as intended. However, much as it is probably futile to try to guess the reasons for the rejection, consultancies typically struggle with making experienced hire. It maybe that the poster was seen as a threat by those he/she would be reporting into. I agree also that in group interview situations it is probably not uncommon for a company to invite a couple of people they have no intention of hiring who will have a particular effect on the group. If they looked an anon's profile and thought "this person is going to try to take over in group exercises", the real reason anon was invited may have been to see how their ear-marked candidates responded to him/her
