OK brief history of myself. Am 29 years old. BBD in A-Levels and 2.1 in Computer Science from Brunel University. Have 6 years experience in the IT industry doing the typical roles but for the last 9 months have been working in the Enterprise Architecture field. This (for those who don't know) is basically aligning business strategy to technology strategy. Due to my technology focussed history of roles, I have a massive gap in my business knowledge. Recently I've been doing some thinking around doing an Executive MBA. This I feel would go someway to filling in the gaps and act as a career accelerator. But I'm in two minds, will this help my career? Is it worth spending over £30K for? And what afterwards if I want a change of career direction?Any help/advice would be most appreciated.

Given your background, probably not. Apart from going inot PE or inv banking you would not get your money back in the long term

Ono the other hand...

...the average period of return on investment for an MBA is 2-3 years, with a few cases falling outside this zone. With proper application of what you learn on the course it would be difficult to why you should be any different.

Would a good MBA enable me to change career direction in to something like Strategy Consulting or an Inv. Bank or is that not likely with my poor A-Levels and lack of "ivy league" university experience?

I have similiar background with experience in Enterprise Data Architecture and done my pursued MBA ( web based) to me the it has been a value in terms of learning however i dont think it fully supports career change or transformation path. I have seen very few Fortune 100 companies giving credit to it when u apply for a job.hope it helps u in your decision rgdsRB
