Okay, I'm not exactly a "fat lad", but I'm beginning to expand. I’m also – and this is the main driver – looking to boost my energy levels.I am looking into setting up a gym at home and would really appreciate some tips on equipment.I would like to buy a treadmill, elliptical trainer and rowing machine. I have searched online a great amount but have not found a really good review site.Do you have any tips as to the brands to go for?TIA

To be honest as a fitness instructor,I would reccomend you just join your local gym. For a few reasons, 1. Its more socialable 2. Better and more 'specialist' equipment3. Expert advice from FI's/PT's (could have incorrect form and egt insured in your home)4. Cheaper5. Im sure there is more, but cant think ;-)But if you have you heard set on a home gym. You cant go wrong with a the stuff here: http://www.goldsgymdirect.co.uk/I would reccomend you get a:1. Multigym2. Set of free weights3. 2/3 pieces of cradio (although personally i would avoid a treadmill, as they are expensive, break easily and to be honest its more fun running outside in the freshair)Hope this helps,

Thanks Mike. Do you have any workout programmes you could share with me? I am looking to build up my chest and shoulders in particular (I already have quite strong legs from the amount of cycling I do). It needs to be something practical I can do from home - e.g. I do have some 15Kg dumbells but I don't have a bench or any heavier weights for bench presses to build up my chest.

Not a consultant

I'd imagine quite a lot of people on this site aren't something to do with the consulting profession. I'm not (I came across this forum when I was looking for a graduate job – before I realised I didn’t want to work that hard) but I still come here from time to time as there are sometimes interesting threads and blackadder quotations.

Mike,Thanks for your reply. To be honest, I'll probably join a gym as well. However, the biggest cost I have is time - I cannot attend a gym during lunchtime or in the evenings. The ability to go down to my shed and do 30-40 mins cv work before I jump in the shower in the morning will make a real difference to me. I can leave the gym for the w/e.....I could also get some PT instruction at home to make sure doing things properly.PaulP.S., KM - interested by your reply. I'm a consultant but find this forum to be really useful for other topics. A lot of the people here have similar interests and backgrounds so why not post threads looking for extra-curricular advice??

Working out at home will mean you miss out on all the toned, limber honeys at the gym. One VERY good reason to go and work out.

AMAD, fret not. I have a plan. A plan so cunning you could stick a tail on it and call it weasel.I'm going to use my home gym as a means of blasting the blubber before thrusting my slimmed-down body into the gym. In only a matter of weeks, I'll be buffed, polished and v-shaped. Allegedly.
