Yeah it's fairly good - you fill out an online form which gets authorised, then post your reciepts off, then you get the money into your bank account - doesn't take long as long as the authoriser approves it quickly. Hope that answers your question!

Thanks for that. Do you mind me asking when buying i.e train tickets or paying for hotels do you pay for this out of your own money then get reimbursed or do BT supply a company credit card?

You can opt to use the company credit card which you have to settle anyway, or you can do what most consultants do which is to use your own preferred card and collect lots of lovely rewards. At BT you have to get authorisation for travel first.By the way, this is normal for most consultancies. Sometimes there is an advantage with using the company card as you may get a longer repayment period which helps when expenses inevitably get snagged somewhere in the system.

Thanks for that. You say..."At BT you have to get authorisation for travel first". So if you are on a client site and traveling to and from each week you need authorisation? Do you get to travel first class or standard? and which hotels do they allow you to stay in?

Yep.....BT clamped down on travel earlier this year as part of cost control exercise. Truthfully, it's an almost automatic approval but it gives them visibility they hadn't had before.Travel policy is usually std class depending upon how long you are travelling for. If it's long haul you may be able to travel business class. Hotels are booked at corprate rates and the usual suspects are there (Hilton,Marriott etc) depending upon where you go.Truth is with BT you won't travel that much....

Depends on what you get given to do. If you were looking for international travel you've come to the wrong company. Lots of work in Scotland though....

Thank you for all yr useful information. I have been offered a role called Entry Level Position as I have graduated last year and have 2 years industry experience. Do you no about the induction process?, how much training you get throughout a year?, whether you get a company phone, laptop etc.

You are worrying about nothing!!!! Do not fret about things like laptops and phones. You'll get the same stuff wherever you go. If you really want to worry about a computer and phone, call the recruitmnet officer and ask to be put in touch with an existing consultant who can answer these questions for you. They don't have anything to hide and if it will put your mind at ease to talk directly to someone who already works there, where's the harm. Try to find someone who you will hook up with either geographically or on an initial assignment and you can start to build your network also.I'm sure BT have enough consultants who would be willing to talk through some of your questions over the telephone. It costs nothing to ask and you won't do yourself any harm!

After 2/3 years at BT, how easy would it be to transition to another consulting firm, with the view to specialise in the telecomms sector?

Probably not very. You need to make sure that when you join BT you push for the right roles. Your people manager will help but it's ultimately up to you. From what I hear there's enough of everything to suit all tastes and you can pick up more or less the right content to support your growth in a particular direction. I would suggest making your career direction very clear from the moment you arrive.

What would be the 'right roles'?Or would the answer depend on the type of role I hope to move into?
