Am a hospital medic interviewing final rounds at BCG and McK. Are there any other medics out there who care to share their thoughts on moving from medicine to consultancy? Have managed to get good training number through MTAS lottery so this is choice not necessity. Any input much appreciated.

If you managed to get an offer through MTAS, i'd take it! Ask the potential employers if you can talk to someone from their team who is also a former medic. They won't mind, and would rather have someone join who will stay (because they know what they are getting in to) than someone that joins and leaves within a year.

Well done for getting the interviews. Can I ask for you for some advice? How did you apply for the jobs? Did you change your medical CV to a corporate CV? I am keen on applying to management consulting. Please advice. Thank you.

I did change my medical CV into a business CV, which essentially involves reducing the length down to two sides. There are loads of websites out there on how to do this. Best of luck.

I am a biomedical scientist (aka medical laboratory diagnostics) wanting to move into consulting. However, I am really struggling turning my CV corporate!! Have the skills, don't have the appropriate 'proven' experience. Is this something you had to get around? If so, how?

I ordered several books online and looked at some of the subscription-only websites too. Go to Amazon - the US site is better than the UK one - and have a look. All you need to do is type Management Consulting into the web browser.Am about to accept an offer and leave medicine, though actually signing on the dotted line is taking a little more courage than I thought it would.Best of luck.

dont blame you..to have studied for 5 yrs (more in many cases!) and to have a vision of a certain role in life (helping people, becoming a doc/surgeon etc..), I'm sure there will be some hesitation in signing over to a new challenge. But good on you. It takes balls to do so and at the end of the day - if you dont like it, to be able to fall back onto the medical profession is not such a bad thing is it...??Atleast this way, you make consultant quicker...!!! (sorry, couldn't resist the quip!)I'm also making the move from healthcare professional to strat consulting. Looking forward to it loads!p
