HiI'm about to get an MSc in Operational Research. In between my first degree (in Industrial Management) and this degree, I used to run my own IT support business for 3 years and I have a little over a year's experience in cost estimating for a manufacturing company.I also speak 5 languages and wish to have an international career.Extra-curricular activities include class rep for a year, but everything else is mostly at hobby level. I am also a MENSA member. The question is: I am interested in consulting (which is why I chose to study OR), but ultimately I'd like to work in an international organisation such as the World Bank, the OECD, the UNDP, etc, etc. I am fully aware of the challenges to do that. My question is, what sort of career would be a good preparation for that? Would, for example, working in Government OR service provide me with more appropriate experience than a typical consulting firm? Should I prefer a bank/finance organisation instead of consulting? Perhaps risk management instead? In consulting, any particular companies or industries? I love to travel, I am an extrovert, love intellectual challenges and have very good writing skills. Overall consulting seems a good fit, but I wish to build my career in way that will lead me to my final goal.
