I am currently a pharmacist with 7 years pharmacy experience and would like to make a transition to life science/healthcare consulting as I would ideally like to combine my clinical background/technical background in a commercial context.I have an interest in the pharma/biotech industry and am particularly interested in R&d analysis and strategy also in product/therapy analysis. I feel i have the tranferable skills to offer and am motivated and a quick learner. I would appreciate on any advice of what channels to pursue in my transition. Is an MBA a must for someone like myself without a formal financial background? do i just cold call consulting companies witjh my CV ? and what are some life science consulting companies that would be worth looking into?Being a neophyte, I Would very much appreciate any advice offeredthanks:)D

We're all hiring like gangbusters in this space - and your background is certainly viable. If you've thoroughly researched what we do, you should just go ahead and start submitting your resume with a cover letter that nicely outlines how you feel your skills transfer. It wouldn't hurt to join some biopharma networking or business groups and take some relevant courses. If you're still researching, do some informational interviews with people in the field. If you don't have any immediate contacts, try LinkedIn or other business social networking groups.

I am based in Boston, so the ones I know of are local - MIT and Harvard both have biotech business clubs that run excellent events, there is a Biotech Tuesday social networking group, there are a few venture forums that I occasionally attend, there's a med device group that meets monthly outside Boston, etc.
