a plethora of options

I've always found the world of academia easy. Essays take no time, exams and revision are merely perfunctory. As such, when I graduated from Oxford in Physics in 2004 with the highest mark in the year, I went straight on to do a second bachelors in French and Russian at Oxford. Being in this position, with a double-First from Oxbridge and three languages under my belt, I can do anything. I have three offers. Please advise:Mckinsey: standard Grad scheme - circa £40kDeloitte Strategy: standard Grad scheme - circa £30kUBS: analyst - circa £45k, big bonus

Just lucky I guess. I'm sh*t at sport if thats any consolation! Also, I'm terrible at making decisions. I know that I've got to make the decision on my own, but I would really appreciate some advice. Is there any way of earning more than UBS are offering?

Forget about the money, it's a grad role. Yes you will make more at UBS but is that a career (or will it provide exit options) that you want?

Why would you base your decision on starting salary? Don't be short-sighted.What do you want out of your career?Which of these are the best-placed to help you achieve that?Come on - if you're going to be a strategy consultant, you need to think strategically about things. Your career is no different to the type of project you'll be working on.

POO (!), Some words to the wordly wise, if I may be so bold in the company of such a fiece intellect. You have to answer the question 'what do you really want to do', ie what's is going to get you up in the morning rearing to go. I know too many people that have failed to answer this question at your stage, midlife, and even at the ends of their working lives. It's the hardest question (workwise) but you need to answer it; the rest is just about paying the rent, and buying life's toys...

I would say McKinsey, two years and they pay for you to do an MBA, stay another year and you can do what you want. Mckinsey alumini are one probably the most sought after in the world.

Dave, You might be right - but this profile isn't that unusual at the top end of consulting, so until we know differently you can either take him for real, or just ignore the post.BTW all the academics in the world don't mean you are going to make a good consultant, or employee...
