Jonathan,Firstly, choose a degree that you think would enjoy studying. Spending 3-4 years in university studying a subject you don’t enjoy will show in your commitment and ruin your university experience. Most people on here will agree when I say university years are the best years of your life.Secondly, assess what subjects you are strong in Pre University at A levels (if you do them) and choose a subject that suits your ability. A strong degree result will obviously go a long way in help you get your dream job however it wont be the only factor. Employers will also look at what you did with the opportunities you were given. These days’ soft skills (team work, communication, problem solving, leadership potential, etc) are so important and there is no better way to demonstrate this than through getting involved with extra curricular programs. Volunteering during your time at university shows your social awareness and determination, running societies and helping to organise societal events with demonstrate initiative and problem solving etc. As a whole, I would recommend chose a subject you will enjoy and make the most of your experience. Get involved in much as possible so when you walk into the interview room years from now your potential will shine and you can demonstrate you have the required skills, acquired through being involved in some of the things I have mentioned. Hope this helps.
