If your role has been purely operational, the transition probably isn't straightforward. If, on the other hand, you've done project work as part of your role, you have much more to talk about in interview.For example, if you've been doing payroll processing for three years, you're probably not consultant material. If, on the other hand, you've helped your company to improve their payroll process (or lived through the outsourcing of your payroll processes), you probably have a good, transferable skillset.
