Can anyone please provide comments on what its like to work at PIPC etc etc..This is a genuine question and I am again disappointed by my fellow colleagues who would rather spend their time answering and posting threads on quite trivial issues.Any input greatly appreciated - thanks.

What were we saying about over-inflated consultant egos?

Ever strike you that PIPC is tiny and therefore there is a very low chance anyone works there, has worked there, knows anyone who works there, or gives a flying fish about the place?Sure. I could throw out some wild assumptions about what it is like to work there, based on a quick glance at their website. I could even pretend to work there to make my guesses sound more credible. But frankly, I wouldn't want to waste your time.

I work at PIPC. The main kinds of people you find here are skilled project specialists who have been chosen for their track record of successfully delivering projects.I think we have some of the people in the business for direct delivery responsibility but also for supporting delivery. I haven't been here too long but people seem to live by the code of practice – action, common sense, knowledge and fun – and I find that this is what makes the business tick. I think that the firm recognizes that successful project management requires a combination of 'hard' and 'soft' skills. This combination is evident in the people I see around me. They tend to be experts in specific industry sectors and well grounded in best practice project management, as I mentioned above. But I think it also helps you stand out around here if you can inject pace, energy and enthusiasm into project teams. The clients I've worked with seem to find our hands-on, can-do attitude refreshing, and respect both our expertise and our willingness to move heaven and earth to achieve their desired results. In summary, I'd say that PIPC is a distinct and flexible organization that fosters entrepreneurship, teamwork and knowledge sharing. I think we actually deliver heightened value for our clients, which isn't always easy in this business.

In terms of assignment locations, we have offices in five global regions (basically everywhere except Africa) and projects spanning the globe. It's difficult to say where your assignments will be located because it depends on how rare your experience and skills are. Your career can be locally oriented or international, focused on a key industry or on a client service. Because we're a fairly small firm, if we win a big project in your home region it means you'll almost certainly be working on it for a while. I'd say that we're still just big enough that whatever your career aspirations, we have the global reach and commitment to give you a decent shot at seeing them realized. In terms of work-life balance, there isn't much (any?) out of hours socializing with your colleagues and it's not really something that's a high priority within the firm. We're just glad to get work whilst we can as most of us are conscious that the economic cycle can turn quickly and it's not like we're big enough to have a huge financial cushion to fall back on when it does.

Mr Senior Vice Presidentwhy do you always act like an idiot on this forum? of course I get the fact that someone has basically reiterated to me what I already know. I thought this forum's aim was to provide insight into all types of mgt consulting firms but obviously mugs like you have been allowed to roam around on this site for far too long.Any constructive insights out there?

I know several people at PIPC that are very unhappy. I have recently joined a smaller consultancy (ex-Big 4) that competes directly against PIPC. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time and have been involved in several bids where PIPC were involved....everytime beating them.Based on my experience and that of close friends, I wouldn't recommend joining PIPC. Best of luck....
