Question - how often do consultants move jobs ?I have just joining consultancy after a number of years in industry.Been with a big firm for a year and it is going OK, but considering moving to niche firm.I was in my last industry role for only year and before that 6+ years with the same company.I worry about moving too quickly and looking unstable - Is a year too short a time ?

Honestly, I would recommend that you hang on to this job a little longer. I have been told by recruiters that my changing jobs within a short period of time causes suspicions that I may leave them shortly after joining them.

James,In general Olga's right but one 'quick' move isn't going to affect things too much. If you've got a firm offer from the niche place and you want to do it then do. Be sure about your reasons and think about what you'd say to a future employer .. not some 'this is what they want to hear' answer but the truth.. if you're genuinely happy with what you'd say then go for it. Also, if you stuck with your current job, how would you feel in one year's time?..
