Hi everyone,I was wondering if any of you have had to work as a consultant for a firm who made money out of a business which you believed to be disreputable and out-right wrong. I mean, for example, weapon manufacturers or cigarrette manufacturers. (or for others here maybe abortion clinics, contraceptive manufacturers, etc).If so what did you do? If you had wanted to jump out of that job is there a way of doing so without getting into serious trouble? Thanks.

Hi,If you are trying to get off a specific project / working with a specific client then you should be able to approach the resourcing manager/project manager and have a quiet word without too many problems. Explain why you don't feel comfortable working on the project and assuring them that you're flexible to work on pretty much anything else. Do this with the maximum notice possible (i.e. as soon as you're asked to work on the project).Hardly anyone will begrudge you standing up for your values. It is only likely to be an issue where you need to resign if:* you object to working for the firm fullstop as long as they make any money from the objectionable client* you're working for a consultancy that specialises in that work or on a long-term project in that area (e.g. working on a big defence contract)* your issue is something that might not be particularly easy to explain/justify (e.g. not wanting to work for Tesco because they sell clothes and you have strong naturist beliefs)
