I have a first round interview with ACN tom. Its for a grduate analyst role within business and systems integration consulting, but I am told ACN first round for all consulting divisions is the same.I am a bit worried and was hoping someone could help. Please, please - if you attended an ACN first round, could you share what sort of questions you were asked? I am thinking of examples for leadership, teamwork, difficult situation etc - the usual stuff - are there any more "trick" compentency questions ACN is asking? The last thing I want is to be blank!! Also, is the level of detail required in the questions a lot? And what other questions other than competency based questions could come up? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Expect questions such as:Give me an example of a time when:1) You made a bad decision2) You showed leadership3) You you priortised somethingetc.Learn some of the case studies from the website.

Why do they ask these kinds of behavioural questions?Surely all they test is my ability to think up a convincing story that demonstrates the skills I think they're looking for? Even if I do have a suitable 'real life' story, it's going to be very difficult to accurately recall it on the spot.. so surely this means that, at best, people embellish their answers to these types of questions somewhat?Shouldn't they be asking questions that test either a) your intelligence and ability to handle different problems and situations, or b) verifable facts about your experience and skills?Just to illustrate the point, about half my graduating class has apparently delivered a relative's baby in the back of a car under emergency circumstances. They all thought it was a very good example of when they showed leadership, handled pressure, worked to a deadline, made a bad decision, learnt something etc.

That is why there are 2 rounds, the second round tests your a and b. Look mate, play the game. If someone if so stubborn they can't sit there and give the answers everyone here knows they should give to show they have done a bit of research and have an interest in consulting I doubt they are going to be top performers on the job.

Hi anon and junhinothanks very much for your post. very useful.could you also share what sort of case studies they ask in the first round, and how you answered them? I am panicking, cause I haven't prepared for the case. Did you prepare at all? Is it important to know frameworks?Trying to concentrate more on the compentency based questions as they are apparently the most important.

My case study was a Global Water Supplier, that was experienced a large amount of complaints due to the time taken to fix water leaks. The question was how could ACN help, it was fairly obvious and straight forward. Honestly don't worry about it, just remember always to think of the client. Not only ACN's client i.e. the water supplier but also the end client.

I had the water supply as a case study, but that was for my 2nd interview. The first round interviews are very simply, 1 pages descriptions and you have to talk about 3 things you would do.

Water Supply was definitely my 1st round.I said:1)They could establish a database of repairmen.2)They could gave them equipment so that the system could automatically trace the nearest repairman with the necessary skills to the problem.It was a while ago so I can't remember anything else to be honest with you, the case study was only a couple of paragraphs and after reading it it really was very straightforward to answer. I think there is a practice one on the ACN website.
