Hi, I recently received an offer from Deloitte for their senior consultant position in the technology services and am interested in some help in negotiating for a fair salary. Some background info:Years exp: 7 in tech (Software dev)Degree: MBA Did brief glassdoor search in va/dc area and it is ~110k +comp/bonusTS clearanceNow I hear different stories from internal folks there i know - some say it is almost non-negotiable as they target you at the position and experience level while another said he was low-balled several times while he tried to negotiate up (his position is junior than mine though). I for one am extremely excited about this opportunity and I certainly don't want to be overly greedy but don't want to sell myself short either you know so before i call the recruiter back I want to be prepared for some negotiation strategies. I do know the mean salary is as a mentioned above and I also know that with a clearance like mine it does carry value (some say 6-8k more) but i am not sure how to argue that into my negotiation strategy though. I would like for some help in some scenarios:1. Probably likely - ~110k I think this might be their offer since it is the mean. If i am offered this I think i would love either some sign on bonus or little more - should i argue about my clearance?2. lowball - 100kThis I wouldnt be particularly happy and the obvious counter would be "the mean" but they could just raise it to that level and say "you got what you wanted". What should my approach be here?3. >110KI think I might just try ask for some sign on bonus but if they say no i say ok. I think this scenario of above the mean is good..Thanks in advance for the help!

I do want to add to it that they know the range i am making now and they also know i dont have any other offers - honestly I wasn't particularly looking to move to another job and the company contacted me and it turned out to be a great opportunity. I also know the basics of negotiation like not to give a number, negotiate pieces of the offer etc. But I am really not too keen on how to negotiate with Deloitte in particular to gauge what can or can't be negotiated...

Any company of this size works with salary ranges for each level; however they will put a cap to what they can offer new hires to avoid that you immediately hit the upper limit - and it would be more expensive than hiring in the lower ranges.Usually the negotiation will look more at your current package compared to what they would typically offer a new hire at that level - obviously they'll want to avoid paying you a huge raise; on the upside it avoids that they try and reel you in at too little a raise as you can talk about your expectations (knowing that changing jobs is always a risk so there should be a financial gain as well).Sign-on bonus is a possibility but take into account that a higher base salary will carry over until your next promotion whereas a sign-on bonus only counts once.
Sorry, just realised we may not be talking UK here
Indeed, US so 110 K$ - to be fair the currency was missing. Glassdoor info seems realistic (and on par with your estimate in £), especially considering the number of people who submitted their info
