I have just had an email back from Capco's recruitment team stating that 80% of the work is in London but there will still be an expectation to travel. Can anyone from Capco actually confirm these sort of figures?I'm currently working at a consultancy where there is huge pressure to travel. I'd love the option to work at a number of different banks/ hedge funds etc without having to be away from my partner and family during the week.I suspect that it's 80% London based until you join and it then magically switched to 50% or less.Would really appreciate any feedback.

I'd suggest it was more like 100% London based across 90% of projects if that makes sense. However if land on a specific project then you could end up with the 10% that travel (could obviously try to avoid that though)Does that make sense?

Peter,Unfortunately there is no easy answer or way out on this one... you have chosen a career in MC, where national and international travel at short notice is (in general) part and parcel of the job... From what I can see, Capco is a small consultancy which means that when the client says "jump" they will say "how high?"Small consultancies have a set amount of work and they send whoever is available to where that work is (unlike Big 4 or similar where you can look around other Partners and try get London projects, doesn't always work but its easier and possible to do).To be fair, yes its likely most of their work may be London based but do not take that as a given. If you arrive on the bench and the only work available is in Edinburgh (as stated by one of the others here), then that is exactly where you are going for as long as its needed. If we think about it, if there is London work, a lot of the boys and girls already there will want it and you may get stuck with the leftovers on the dinner plate.HOWEVER, having said all that, there are many advantages of joining one of the smaller consultancy houses, do a search on this forum for "big vs small" and "niche consultancy" and you will find out.

My anecdotal experience of capco is it's 80% London based as you were told. That means 80% of projects are in London (with possibly some requirement to travel as necessary on those for short periods). The other 20% are probably in Edinburgh, Belfast. I expect there'll be the occasional role in NYC, middle east, perhaps South Africa too.Never worked there, but know a few who have.

They've been bought by FIS now though right? I wonder how things might change...
