I'm currently finishing my degree and I've been looking for potential employers. I've consistently read to look for small firms to apply to for a number of different reasons that all make perfect sense, the only issue is how on earth do I find them? The larger firms are pretty obvious and easy to identify, but anywhere that isn't medium-large seems fairly difficult to locate without being in the industry already. Wikijob has a big old list of firms and I've soured every single one and eliminated anything that doesn't suit my skillset (namely, as long as it's not an IT consultancy it should be acceptable) but I'm fairly sure that I'm only skimming the surface here.

Vault?

Vault would be one source, Glassdoor would be similar. Linkedin can be your best route in this. What you are looking to do is make strong applications to a set number of mid sized firms, not send your resume everywhere. So identify which firms you know of which suit your target, then identify who their competitors are. Can you give us some examples of the firms you are looking at as being medium-large? I'm sure we can put some more suggestions in the box which are alike to the ones you have already identified.

Vault seems pretty extensive, not sure how I hadn't discovered it already.I've previously worked for PA as a technical intern and in other roles, I'm not necessarily looking for something quite so technical, but something that utilises my background (physical sciences) and expands on the managerial consultancy side. They had a life sciences analyst position available very recently but I managed to forget about it and missed the deadline. Smooth.
