I have a cold, and stuck in bed feeling bored/moody, so thought I'd have a rant. When reading posts on here (and elsewhere on the internet) the thing that keeps striking me, is that there always seems to be some idiot who interprets things out of context, and starts slagging people off.Or those who aren't capable of thinking logically, and need someone to point out the flaw of thair agument to them.Or those that do really understand what someone is saying but due to the choice of wording construe it otherwise (for example the person in the thread about having "face time" for your kids, going off on one because of the use of the phrase "face time".Then there's the person who picks up on a spelling error and uses that as a rebuttal/insult.And then of course there's the people who have to be reminded about the bleeding obvious - yes of course these are all personal opinions based on each persons limited understanding. If we all were obliged to conduct a PhD level thesis on every topic we wouldn't have any discussions! Then there's the people who just seem to be to take offence to everything. To the point it's almost predictable (I'm sure I'll get a "You sound arrogrant/tetchy response" - even though I've begun this post with a tongue in cheek admission of deliberately having a rant)However I really only have two problems with all this. One is - it requires the time and effort of someone else to put them right, which can slow down an otherwise good debate, and secondly with regards to people like this both across the internet and te real world, it just slows things down in general as well causing arguments over all sorts. I am an extrememly logically minded person, as well as always looking to refine my views if someone comes up with a flaw in my logic / alternative convincing argument. Most of the time however I have found that people who are ranting on and being adament about one thing, are then lost for words when you dissect their arguments. But why should I have to waste my time and effort having to get people to properly analyse their own views to make sure it makes sense?

Oh and some more...!There's also the people who are not good at being polite to people. By polite I mean - not turning it into a swearing / shouting match.

"But why should I have to waste my time and effort having to get people to properly analyse their own views to make sure it makes sense?"Nobody here asks you to do this.Nobody here makes you do this.Go and do something more constructive.

One of the things that annoy me most in this world, is the fact that people always assume the worst or jump to negative conclusions before thinking what else someone might mean. It is very apparent on the internet where we only have words to express our meaning and it is difficult for some to know when someone else is joking or being sarcastic. But it is also quite apparent in most other walks of life, and I think it’s just plain rude.As far as people being reminded about the bleeding obvious is concerned – I have no real problems with this. I find it easy to spot problems in other people’s logic, or find mistakes in their grammar or spelling, however I often have problems with my own. I know myself quite well, so I find that I can convince myself of something fairly easily. That’s what friends or co-workers are for, or even what forums like this are for. I know I am relatively inexperienced and that I sometimes make mistakes, so I usually get someone else to have a glance at something before I send it off. A fresh eye is very useful.

"Nobody here asks you to do this. Nobody here makes you do this"You demonstrate my point. I now have to point out to you that in order for debates to proceed someone is required to point out the flaw in someone's logic, otherwise you just end up with an ill founded conclusion. However I think what you are getting at is that it all comes down to how much you care about having a good debate with strangers on the internet (or whereever else you come aross such people). And you are right - I don't bother responding to most people who have bad arguments, as thankfully somoeone else is usually on hand to do it. But it's a shame that good debates have to be slowed down in such ways.

No. You don't have to point out anything.I'm not inviting debate.I'm telling you to go and do something constructive. You're not adding any value with this thread.Stop letting situations/conversations/threads/things etc... that are outside of your control affect how you feel/think/behave. You are wasting your time.As I am here.... unless you get my point...
