Hello everyone. I have very bad posture (I am a very tall thin man who slouches and has rounded shoulders) and was wondering how I can correct this. I've tried simply "standing up tall" but after a while I return to shouching.A few people have mentioned the Alexander Technique but I'm not sure what this is or whether it would even work.I'd appreciate any good, positive suggestions for how I can sort out my posture. Thank you.

I had to go for some physio for my back a few months back. The physio gave me a really good tip. Instead of straightening your back, which can be very stressful, try to stand/walk/sit while making sure that your shoulder blades are as close to each other as possible. For me that's made a huge difference and made it easier to maintain a good posture.

As a tall person, do you find your shoulders/forearms dangle when you type? There are add-ons to desks that elevate forearms and help keep shoulders straight. I know this isn't a commercial site (one of the reasons I love it), but you could try Ergorest's Articulating Arm Supports. I saw these a hile ago at a Canadian store. Good luck.

Yes, spot on M. Pretty much everything is too low down for me... computer desks could do with being a foot higher, I have to bend my head in tube carriages , door handles are too low down... it's almost like my slouching is an adaptation to the environment. But nonetheless, it needs to be fixed.

Mr Nervous, I feel for you position... I few things I've found work over the years - get a PC stand and separate keyboard and elevate you screen as high as you can; stay fit with a good mix of sports - how many sportsmen do you see with bad posture; talk to a decent physio about a small set of back exercises that are right for you - 5/10 minutes invested at the start and end of the day could save you a lot of discomfort later; and make some morny (you'll need it!) and refurbish your home to your specification - no low door frames/loos/sinks, big bed, lot sof headroom - the world will seem a better place!
