Anon, yours is a strange sort of question. Why are you mentioning ACN and McK in the same sentence as your options. They are poles apart in their focus, reputation, sectors, cultures, etc.Pirlo's response is also strange. S/he doesn't point out what I've mentioned above (and is usually double-quick to do so) and then states salaries without clarifying which is where. And then hints that you haven't got a hope anyway.Suggest you first look at what area/sector you want to focus on (Telecom or whatever), then figures out the realistic players in that space.Based on your question, I'm not convinced you've done you homework in this respect. If I may use an analogy, your question is akin to saying you know about wheels, so you want to work for Pirelli (tyres) or British Airways (the planes have wheels) ...

Valueless analogy; his quesiton was perfect. Your limited understanding is the impediment, not his degree of inquisative elaboration. My answer was quick and shallow, becuase his question was quick and shallow - I knew he wanted a simple, straight forward answer. People that consider McK and Acenture as options at the same time, are usually comparing the Accenture SITE practice to the McK technology practice - where the two often inter hire. This is the only accenture consulting division that its seen in high (or valid) regard at McK. McKinsites dont believe that Accenture does 'real' strategy work - and there is very little hire from SBA to the startegy part of McKinsey (which makes up less tha 30% of the Firm anyways)To better explain my answer of why he/she will be an unlikely hire: someone with 16.5 years of experience will be in his early 40's at least, depending on how much education he / she has had. At this age - you dont just 'apply' to Mck ( or even Acn for that matter). You either a) have excellent senior contacts within the Firm b) develop an exisiting relationship that you made during a consulting engagement or c) are referred by a close friend as a principal / senior technical expert. If the original poster had any of these 3 choices, he would already be privy to the same inforamtion he is seeking. Because he asks in the first place - I know he does not have any of those 3 options, and therefore no chance of getting hired. I hope thats enough Boxer, if not, let me know and ill draw you a picture.

Pirilo, It is amazing what an idiot you are. The sad part is that you take yourself really seriously. I feel like throwing up every time I see a post from you. God, I hope I never have to meet people like you. I hope you are just an imaginary person only found in books, movies and forums.

What's with the bunch of you putting down others in the forum? Why do you derive so much satisfaction from it? I think Pirlo put his points forward well to explain about the dynamics between ACN and McK. Mike, ElAnon, I don't see anyone of you providing any inputs that is relevant to Anon's question. Perhaps you could give your take on the question posed? I think this question is relevant and I would want to get more opinions about it.

Oh please. Don't even try to defend somebody who is answering criticism with phrases such as;"I hope thats enough Boxer, if not, let me know and ill draw you a picture""You're not worthy. That's why you don't understand."Thats what people are reacting to. If he had responded in a more mature fashion, the topic could have proceeded in a much more constructive manner.

Many thanks for your post Pirlo, your reply have been bang on target & straight forward...appreciate ur help.My qualifications include an Engineering Degree and a MBA. But the prospect of being an unlikely hire is :-(Does this mean people like me can't make it to companies like McK or Acc. I am sure they wud need such experience profiles within their organizations...

No, Do not despair. Without going into too much depth on your qualification, you should try and get in touch with some recruiters that deal with Acccenture. ( There are many on the career ops tab of this site - weary of my post being cancelled if I were to name a few). Accenture always look for technical experts - they have a subdivision called Accenture Technology Solutions - that has different recruitment channels all together. For McK its a different, and probably more difficult path. There are a few recruiters out there that speak to them, a little bit of research will bring these to light. Hint: they are usually smaller, more discreet firms. Lastly, there are many other good firms with someone with your background. Is there a specific reason that you have chosen just those two players? If you tell me a bit more, i can see to give you a bit more of my opinion that everyone seems to hate ;)P

Hey AnonApologies..I didn't realize there was another Anon on the threads..maybe I'll post as Anon-X:-)Pirlo - The reason I picked on Acc & McK is bec I thought they are truly global players and it wud give me the kind of exposure I am looking for. There are other company's as well..but my regard for both these company's are quite high.I must say though, u been a big help. Thanks.

Anon,Here is more of the opinion that people like to hate. You must understand why you must know to ask more about other consultancies and not these two only. Do this and you will be awarded accordingly. I work for the IT based one and would be worried if one person was asking about these two only at the interview. However, you should not despair as am I sure you will find your way, just as I will find mine someday. While I will often have the complete answer it is ironic that I often cannot find this for my own career here in the UK. This is one fate that snarls at us all however and I have the tenacity that befits such a challenge. Other people who peruse this forum often do not seem to posess these true qualities and will never understand the career fate that is already decreed to their paths. P
