Do many consultancies use outsourcing with likes of Verifile for pre-employment checks? Also, are these companies effective in producing results?

It is becoming more and more common. I certainly heard about Verifile from various customers of mine. I also heard that when checks are done systematically results are staggering.

The bigger firms use these agencies more often than small ones as you generally need to be making and checking a fairly hefty number of hires to make it cost-effective.Objectively, I don't know if the agencies are all that effective, but they generally do a better job than HR would have time to if the pre-employment checks were done in-house.

An increasing number are using external background checkers and CV verifiers at all levels. In this litigious world they can’t take the risk of employing someone to work with their clients who isn’t what they say they are. My advice would be to be honest on your CV. If you can’t do that then try and avoid actually telling lies! Cover any difficult areas at interviews. If for example you have forgotten to mention an employer you should do so then. You may be asked to complete an application form: that is your final opportunity to tell the truth as it will probably ask for a greater amount of detail and give you less “wriggle room”. The risk that you will be found out is definitely getting greater.
