Wipro currently have a recuiting poster up on Top Consultant looking for previous experience from either Tier 1 or Tier 2 consulting firms/companies. Without lengthy debate, could someone define who is Tier 1 and who is Tier 2 (and Tier 3 if there is a Tier 3)? Are there two different sets of league tables depending on whether we talk about strategy houses or systems integrators. Not looking to start a bun fight over who is better, just trying to work out the groupings and perceived status from a recuritment perspective. Many thanks. MD

I'd avoid over-analysis on this one. I think by "Tier 1 or Tier 2" they just mean firms that they've heard of, with a decent market share and/or reputation. This would mean any of the big full service firms, or niche/boutique firms with a genuine market strength in the IT/outsouring space.

Beng, on thread 24648, has a few very interesting observations available on this. Tier 1 / tier 2 has a recruitment consultancy/ HR meaning that would not differ vastly from anon's generous post (on top of this). Even without the quickest of analytical oggles it begs the question : why is the IT/outsourcing restriction there? There are many exceptions to it these days. There is another management consultancy meaning that probably would start a bun fight, but as it is a career forum it would probably be best to keep that bun on the plate!
