its 915 pm. been here since 8. have at least 3 / 4 hours to go.. more spreadsheets, more repetitive tasks, more research so that the principals presentation looks good - more people taking credit for my work. and what for? im 24, on a measley 65k a year, with a job that will either kill me or send me to the asylum. anyone else feeling the same way?

Well I spent 6 months on the bench last year doing absolutely nothing.Would be OK for some but I am a workaholic. I longed for a few 12 hour days.Enjoy it while you can.

"a measley 65k a year"? please tell me this is 65k USD.... if not and it is 65k pounds, then you shouldn't feel that your comp is so "measely".

Given the post went up in the morning and refers to 9:15pm, I think it's safe to assume the poster isn't in the GMT zone.US time zones would fit the bill, but it could also be somewhere substantially ahead of GMT like Australia/NZ.

For pete's sake - stop being such a baby. You're clearly not stupid, so do something about your situation.

I know how this guys feels.... he's a lot better paid than I was but the endless long hours and pointless work drives you nuts after a while. I felt like I was doing research just for the sake of it. In many ways I felt like I was preparing text book educational material for my principal to use as when presenting himself as some kind of phoney 'teacher' or to make himself look smart in front of a client. One fool I worked with said that "long hours are the norm, the only time you stop doing research and analysis is when you reach the project deadline... there's always more to do". Talk about boiling the ocean dry, it really made me think "surely there's more to life than living 24/7 in some sterile little cubicle doing what basically amounts to the same kind of stuff as geography homework"

I bailed out of the city rat race and went to work for a much smaller firm who works on much smaller projects for clients in the UK only. The work is much more interesting and I now finish work at a reasonable hour every day. Sure I took a bit of a pay cut, but boy oh boy was it worth it.

Me too - I'd had enough and am now an internal consultant doing top-level strategic stuff for a major institution. A 10% pay cut but in terms of per hour I'm massively better off!Oh and I'm immeasurably happier.
