Hey Amethyst - I picked this one up at Foyles for £10 and I'm finding it quite useful, if basic: "Teach Yourself Consulting" by Anna Hipkiss. Yeah, pretty straightforward... but quite practical and easy to read. Not a bad place to start... Also, check out the business section at Foyles – they’ve loads of good intro consulting books you can thumb through, to see what suits, and then go buy 'em cheaper on Amazon. (Okay, buy at least one from the shop, it's only fair.) ;-)

A good one I found was Peter Block's Flawless consulting. Which takes you through the whole process of engaging, scoping and feeding back your results. Very people orientated rather than functional. My firm also give new consultants copies of Barbara Minto's 'Pyramid Principle' and some guy's 'Say it with presentations' which are all about delivering messages professionally. My biggest learning when I started in MC from industry was writing good presentations. SO they're good too. Before you buy check out you local / uni library. My local town library has the above books and its certainly cheaper than buying them yourself
