It'll give you a bad back at 30! They are pretty uncomfortable.

Good question. Its a tough one, but I would go for the Z4, as a boxter is simply a poor mans 911. But hey, I drive a entry level 2001 VW Golf

Nigel, both are women's cars. As is the SLK. Suggest a used 911 ( pick up something nice for around 40k), bmw M3, or audi s4. Forget the roadsters!

Nigel,By "the same prestige" I assume you mean 'the perception that I have the same-sized pen1s'.I can categorically say that nothing says 'small man in the showers' clearer than a Boxster. The Z4 implies that you're a hairdresser.Measuring ones self-worth by what car one drives seems a bit shallow and pointless to me.

unless you're thinking about a Z4M forget the Z4. boxster (s ideally) anyday. Or more space and superb is the new BMW 335 coupe which I have just bought.

Since you're so rich, why not get something flashy like a Zonda?

Giorgio & Chris - Excellent ideas, and I agree.gotcha - Bore off. cars are a bit of fun. If you can afford a good one and it makes you feel good about yourself, get one. Everyone that can afford one, and it is practical in their life to have one, has a flash car - FACT

Depends what watch you're wearing when you drive it! ;)If you're after making a statement, though, why look at either of these. There are too many of them about to be prestige cars these days. Same as BMW was a few years back - nowadays they are just fleet cars.Check out a decent car mag to see what's available in your price bracket that will say you're doing well but also set you apart. Going for the Boxter or Z4 smacks a bit of following the crowd.Just my two cents.

"Everyone that can afford one, and it is practical in their life to have one, has a flash car - FACT"source?cretin. Why not show a little individuality and taste, rather than buying the same as every other manager in the firm?I just spent less than £5k on a beautiful MGB GT. Within a week of driving it to the city I'd been offered nearly double that by some pinstriped idiot.

Hello Sam,A little respect might be a useful addition to your array of qualities. Calling someone cretin and suggesting a guy in pinstripes is an idiot doesn't quite cut it.If the guy values your car at £10K and can afford it, why does that make him an idiot. Get a grip.In the meantime, I must applaud your taste in autos. An MGB GT is a bit special. And it isn't one you see every day either.

Buy yourself a Suzuki Hayabusa - makes a Z4 or suchlike look like a Mini Metro and its so powerful you wont care what people think you look like and you'll be going too fast for them to see you anyway.Superman has one under his cape ;-)

I agree with a previous post that buying a Z4 or boxster is a bit of a follower trait - why not bring some Italian style into your life by going for the new Alfa GT or Brera. But then, maybe you'll disagree...

Neither. Buy a Honda S2000. It's a proper, thoroughbred roadster with more power than the Z4 or Boxster from a 2.0 litre VTEC engine. Thus you won't appear a Lemming.

Guys thanks - great debate each way. I've actually made a decision and am going to keep saving up for a Maserati Grandsport - three year old one's should hit about £35k next year and that is a car I could love and cherish forever, well until the oil runs dry anyway!Nige

Hi Whippersnapper. In my experience, you'd be hard-pressed to find a husband without a wife ...;)As for cars, I rather fancy a Lotus too. Esprit, of course. TVR Griffin is also nice, if you get one that was made after they sorted the reliability issues.

Ladies and Gentlemen....may I present a lovely Ferrari 360 modena? too expensive? OK then how about a lovely 360 Modena replica...This is a special car, you will see none on the road and it will blow what you see around you into the weeds...(OK at least itll beat a bendy bus round a corner!)Its based on a 406 coupe...personally I would save up for a new one, but hey if you desperate...go for it!Now to those of you who feel that all this talk of cars is juvenile, immature, smacks of childishness (i know these all mean the same thing) I beg to ask...how does it feel to have your Oyster card out at the bus stop as the rest of the world drives by and the bus driver's late?MGB GT driver - your stories have been roung the world and back again...think of something a little original eh..

First of all, congrats on being alive. Roadsters are great. This is what roadsters should do imho:1. Be fun to drive - Smile baby!2. make you look classy and enjoying yourselfBMW Z4 and Boxster are reallt good cars, but I would suggest you look into the Smart Brabus Roadster Coupe. (To make it more confusing, it's actually a targa.)The Brabus version has only 101bhp but goes OK, good sound, brabus finishing bot exterior and interior and can be found second hand for - I guess - around 20K.Women think it is a Ferrari and you do not have the poser image associated with BMW and Porsche. I love the car.

HiHad a Boxster at 25 - good fun but they are a rich man pretender car. Best car I ever had was an Audi S8. Would rather have an older version of a similar car than a new Boxster. Like an old wine - you can't replace the quality within.
