Hi Everyone,I am a Ph.D (in my 3rd year doing writing-up) in computer secience at an ordinary UK uni, who is keen to work in consutlancy. I am glad that I found this forum with lots of helpful posts. I am just wondering have anyone gone through KPMG 1st round interview for IT advisor (Graduate Entry). What does the interview look like? Any tips from sucessful candidates? I gotta one coming soon, the 1st interview ever since I started job hunting in consultancy. More importantly, a question about IT advisory graduate job itself at KPMG, it is not really described as a consulting position from KMPG website. Is anyone working in that field? Any "excited" stories or experience I shall expect? Many thanks for any helpful advices--LJ ~(~

KPMG Advisory is not a true consultancy. It is essentially technical audits. Don't waste your time here, as you will be doing audits in IT, Internal Audits and other bits.

thanks for the message. Well, a little bit put me off if going to do auditing, rather than advisory (the role that I considered to be synonymous as conventional consulting)....what does this "technical audit" like....programming (no...:-() + presentation slides?

IT Advisory is competing with Accenture and IBM for work. They are moving away from the traditional IT Audit based work, towards a more Advisory focused service line. At the moment it is roughly a 50:50 split between Advisory and IT Audit work. Still a fantastic place to be and growing very quickly.

I wouldn't waste your time unless you are keen to do a detailed business analyst role (which is not IT Advisory). They have a new head within the space and the colleagues below including HR don't actually know or understand what he is looking for. Not good.

well. It seems the IT advisory position at KPMG is not much appreciated from most ppl's point of view.

Whoa whoa whoa.Beware that what you read here is a mix of understanding, perspective and bullshit in some quarters.Go and see the people and see how they make you feel, if you're not convinced ask some searching questions and see how they respond. If you are still not convinced, walk away. There are many different consultancy firms and some will fit you, but only you will know. You must have liked them to apply so see how you feel when you can see the whites of their eyes!

Thanks...that is indeed really true. I will at least find out a little bit more from my forthcoming 1st interview.busy with my Ph.D writing-up and other things in the uni. Haven't really applied any other MCs apart from the graduate scheme at KPMG advisory and Deloitte consulting.PS: how does everyone think of the possibility to move from a IT consulting position to a more management strategy consulting?
