Hi Everyone,I am a Ph.D (3rd year) candidate in computer science who is keen to work in consultancy. I am an international student and currently studying at an ordinary UK uni with research studentship. I had 3-years (telecomm.) industrial experience before coming to UK. I am currently only applying Grad. entry position, when I think about the systematic training program offered in the Grad. scheme. However, is any chance they will consider me as an potential experienced candidate? Do I have any chance to succeed, compared with Grad. entry. Any different prospect for a Ph.D to work in consultancy? Any ideas?Thanks....LJ

Go for grad schemes - I find it hard to see how you'll fit in as an experienced hire - this isn't banking where PhDs can be substitutes for experience.I have also just finished my PhD in the sciences. In the past 6 weeks I have applied to quite a few MC firms and my hit rate for interviews is >80%. I'm not from Oxbridge (...from London) and I have zero business experience.

Thanks a lot. Hmmm, I haven't really started to apply for MC, mainly IT "consultant" for Big 4. Not sure where to start for consultant (particularly MC) job hunting...A lot of ppl said that Big 4 are heavy workload, doing audit roles rather "real consulting".... a little bit put me off :-(....Besides, writing-up is soooo boring (and hard than I thought)...LJ

Hey anon, just out of curiosity. Where did you do your PhD? Your hit rate for interviews is quite high indeed.

At UCL, with a big prestigious scholarship to boot - not that I'm arrogant or anything.... ; )I should add that due the way my PhD worked out in terms of timing, I didn't manage to apply to MBBB, so that may account for the above average hit rate.

solid background...not surprise for 80% hit rate then...:-) hehe. Will MC firms be looking at the value of Ph.D while you are in interviews?(or possbily in the future jobs?)
