Hello all,I wanted to know the long term prospects and career paths involved in Investment consulting. I have competing offers for inv consulting and corp finance and wanted to know where inv consulting could lead me....is fund management a possible career path....salary long term? Is the job actually interesting?? So many questions...

Yes, fund management is a definite possibility for future career paths, esp. if you do CFA. Graduate salaries are £26-32k. At higher grades you'd make more at a good fund management house. Job is potentially much more interesting than working in asset/fund management, with much more variety and exposure to investment challenges.

Thanks anon, much appreciated. What are the long term salary prospects in Investment Consulting? i.e what would you earn after finishing CFA or by age 30? How long would it take to pass CFA? Bit worried about the self-study aspect...compared to college learning for ACA. I have an offer from Mercer IC...compared to Audit offers for Big 4...tough choice...advice is needed..cheers

As you'll be getting study leave and support, you should be able to get through CFA 1 in one year and CFA 2 in a further two years.Salary by then ca. £36-43k. By age 30, if you are a manager, you might be on £55-60k plus £5-10k bonus.Investment Consulting and Audit are quite different kettles of fish. Go back to the reasons you applied for each, compare and contrast them side by side. The differences should stand out enough to make the choice easier. You may find the eFinancialCareers site useful for researching career profiles and options.

Good question...why is the money so low? I would have thought all the hard work for the CFA offered big money opportunities.Id imagine I would make more than that at Big 4. Also what role could you go into in Fund Management....could you go straight into being a fund manager? Thanks
