I was just wondering what would happen if I do not get the academic results I said on my application form - how will I be dealt with - are there opportunities to prove yourself elsewhere. Is there any flexibility? Or is it a simple rejection?

I agree - in fact, go for a 1st, if you then only get a 2:1 there's no problem.

hi

If your offer says min 2:1 you won't get your job if you fail to get that, they'll ask for the degree cert. There are a small number of people who don't get 1sts and 2:1s who do well, but they're the exceptions (and often contractors not consultants).

anon,Good to hear.May I ask what year you graduated. I am wondering whether it was a period when A-levels and Degree class were less relevant becuase of lower competition for places.

For entry level analyst positions a 2:1 or first is pretty much standard. You'd need to have some pretty exceptional extra-curriculars to get past that barrier. As an experienced hire there is a lot less concern around your degree, since you're marketing yourself on your achievements. You add to your qualifications over time and demonstrate that you're actually able to apply your learning in the real environment rather thanin academia. If it turns out that way then you need to try to get yourself into a management training scheme somewhere. That allows you more opportunity to get into positions that you can market later on.But, as mentioned above, if you're in your final stage justnow you have time to push your performance into the 2:1 range. Unless of course you've been kicking back completely and now have no chance of getting there in the remaining time.

The above post is worth noting. Companies such as Tesco only require a 2.2 for their grad programme so you for example you could work with them for 5 years or so and come in as an experienced hire with retail knowledge.

I fully intend to work my butt off this year, and have been doing very well so far, but that could all change when it comes to the exams. I have been successful in other aspects of my life - ie extra curicular - club captain, ran oevents, leading a small business venture. Will this stand me in good stead, and are there room for negotiations. Or is a plain, "thanks but no thanks". Has anyone been in this situation?
