Hi, I wanted feedback from all your experienced professionals out there on how difficult it would be to shift into Strategic Business Consulting without an MBA. Background:* 4 years work ex in an Environmental Consulting Firm* Masters and PE License* Part of Strategy Teams within present company* Interests in Sustainable Business Solutions/Sustainable Business Strategy for Corporations.I am tossing between making a transition without an MBA or going for the 2-yr kill and tremendous loan of an MBA.Any advice greatly appreciated. Basically engineering then. I made the transition without an MBA, but in the UK and not to strategy.Sounds like an MBA might be useful... why not INSEAD / IMD though and save a year.

Hi,I have a very similar background in environment and I've done a one year MBA in France/UK to switch career. I am now starting to look for a consulting job in London.My advice would be to build your professional project first. Try to meet some people in consulting firms and ask them if an MBA has really any value added in your situation. Basically, you'd like to do something very similar to your previous experience so, in my opinion, an mba is not mandatory to switch, especially in the uk.If you decide to go for an mba, do it in one year: it's a sufficent financial burden even so.And one last thing: an mba is not a golden key that opens any career opportunities you want, unlike what they tell you when you apply. It's as tough to switch with an mba as without because your expectations in terms of salary/position are higher.Good luck and take your time before deciding.
