Booz Allen Advice

Hi, could anyone shed a little light on where Booz Allen are in the consulting market? I keep hearing the term MBBB bandied around, which clearly means they are approaching the top level, but are they really on a par with BCG, Mck etc? Also how favourably would future employees in Investment banking/PE look on entry level Booz Allen consulting experience? Any advice/insight would be great.

They are the creme de la creme!Just you remember this: In 1914, Edwin Booz had an idea. He believed that companies would be more successful if they could call on someone outside their own organizations for expert, impartial advice. In doing so, he created a new profession — management consulting — and the firm that would bear his name, Booz Allen Hamilton.

They are certainly in the top tier and comfortably placed beside McK, BCG and Bain. In addition to their traditional strat stuff, they also get more involved in operational issues than the other three. I understand they are particularly strong on transactional banking, for example.

They are suitably bad at replying to recruitment emails to be up there with the best. How do you go about getting in touch with these people? Should you just email them direct?

Strange - just shows how different offices/recuruiting must be. They were perfectly friendly to me, and I got a call just a few hours after I interviewed."if ur after a quick buck or a good lifestyle in the short term then it probably ain't 4 u" - txt manCan you, or anyone else explain this? Are you making a comment about consulting in general, or specifically about BAH?

i've been directly involved wiv bah's recruitment and to all u nay-sayers out there, bah rocks. but they don't have time for dweeby little no-hopers or ppl who r just after work permits!!yeh they're maybe a little slow 2 get da ball rollin wiv da offers but da best things come 2 those who w8.now quan, in answer 2 ur q: i guess its true of consulting as a whole, da harsh truth is this "profession" is hard work and don't pay all dat well, but it looks gr8 on ur cv. ppl in bah in particular tend 2 work v. hard!!! so the hourly r8 @ ur level (i.e. wot u get paid as a newbie) ain't gonna be much but da name looks good on da cv. employers respect bah 4 da calibre of its gr8 employees. if u have bah on ur cv den any employer knows ur a smart cookie!!

The way you answer a post, writing in idiot abbreviations, portrays the seriousness of you and your firm! Be ashamed little B!and by the way - its McKinsey, Bain and Boston. BAH is in a different tier.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this? Alison? MBBB seems to be the general tier one definition, but reading over some of the posts on this forum it seems there are one or two people (such as yourself Alison) who seem to consider BAH as tier 2.What does everyone else think?

Rubbish. Booz allen WAS top tier, and now no longer is. Companies like Mercer Oliver Wyman, OC&C and LEK have taken the lead over BAH. THe only reason why BAH remains afloat is its HUGE strength with the american government. If you look closely, the REAL growth in BAH in the last 6 years has been from its tech side. BAH is at the top of tier 2 - but has shifted down from the likes of Bain and Boston which are now flying high.

Would anyone like to comment on this? have OC&C and LEK really taken over BAH in terms of 'prestige' and brand? Based on the general comments from most of this forum I find this difficult to believe, but would welcome any further insight.

It may be true that much of BAH's growth in recent years has been due to the US government side However, the London office is the most profitable in the firm with significant growth and has done this with a smaller portion of revenue from the Public sector than the Mckinsey London office has.
