I've got 8 years internal consultancy experience and want to move to a private consultancy company to get wider experience. I've got an MSc and am PRINCE2 and MSP qualified. A friend suggested I would double my salary given that I am a lowly-paid local government employee (£35k).What kind of money should I be looking for?

depends on what position you are applying for as the range is so wide.however you could scan the job market and i would agree that there will be a generous increase in your salary within the private consultancy job market. a doubling of your current salary is possible.good luck.

Whoa... as a consulting recruiter I can tell you that the odds of doubling your salary are few and far between. You would probably get an increase, but I would have thought on the limited info provided that 50k would be the more attainable level.Local government experience is not nearly as desireable as central government experience.
