I am a penultimate year student and am looking into strategy consulting as a prospective career. Money is quite important to me, so what would be a typical salary for a consultant at one of the famous strategy houses with a couple of years experience?</br>I have friends who work for some IT consultancies, who tell me that standard salary with IT consulting after 2 yrs is approx £40-45k...do strategy consultants get paid much more?</br>Appreciate your help, have a good new year.

Those figures sound a little high to be "standard" for IT consulting unless you&apos;re talking about entry as an experienced Associate. McKinsey London pay rates (autumn 2006) are: 1st year £35k, 2nd year £38k for graduate entry Analysts.
