#0 Outside View of Axon Changing? Or Not?

Axoner

Hi,I currently work for Axon and have read posts on here that usually have negative views of the company. I have to say that I do understand why. Although, I'm curious.... is the outside view of Axon changing as the company changes? The US division has recently aquired Premier and Zytalis, both SAP Consultant firms and have tons of work coming up this year and for a few to come (or at least it seems). I have to say that I have mixed emotions about the company as an employee. Sometimes it is good, but so much of our time is spent dealing with the payroll system, reimburssment process, and so many other policy-related items. Not to mention the attitudes of many of the other consultants, especially those in higher or admin positions. Is this to be expected with a company that is as new as it is (10 years I believe in UK and 2 years in the US)? Or any people that have been with Axon for a long time or Ex-Axoners have an opinion on this?I know that there are a few of us that have had offers from other companies, but some of us are unsure if we should stick it out and hope things get better, or if we should get out before it gets worse!Cheers,Axoner

Hi Axoner,The outside view of Axon? The City loves it, and Mark Hunter is in business primarily to make money for his shareholders, not to be loved by his employees. Its success is based on:a) maintaining high rates of occupancy and b) keeping a tight control of its costs. The former means that consultants' career aspirations will always take second place to filling a billable role; the latter that pay rises, expenses, and other employee policies will never favour of the consultant. You probably already know how difficult it is to get authorisation for training courses (still 3 signatures?). Training time is non-billable time. I also found it cliquey and the so-called "support staff" anything but helpful.Yes, there is plenty of work and the success will continue for many years to come. That success needs a workforce that is happy to go from project to project, maybe doing the same thing repeatedly - and if that is you, perhaps you should consider contracting. I don't believe that from an employee's perspective it will ever change in his/her favour.

I agree with the last poster. Axon is not a good company to work for. This year the company reported record profits but there were still no pay increases for its staff. Consultants are not treated with respect, staff are thrown on far flung projects sometimes without even a day's notice. The culture is cliquey as this is the only way that senior managers can hold onto their jobs and not get challenged by more able starters.Their biggest project is at Birmingham City council so you may end up posted their for long periods.
