I take it that this is for the graduate scheme. Applications deadline was 17th and they plan for a 2 week turnaround and interviews start on the 4th so I'd say next week.

Fingers crossed, I applied too and haven't heard anything yet.Do consulting firms generally respond even if it's a no to first rounds?

Yeah,It'll be one of those 'You are really good, but not good enough' emails, where they then wish you all the best in whatever you do, the smug gits.

What are BCG looking for?? (apologies for all those who hate ego trips on this forum) my CV is impressive, the only thing missing is an ox and a bridge - can they really be that narrow minded or am I missing something??

I think you highlighted your failure in your post. First from Oxbridge - come along for an interview. Degree from elsewhere - uphill struggle. Fluency in other languages and internships from a pre-pubescent age onwards perhaps?

I dun tihnk its an oxbridge issue. I attend an oxbridge equivalent school in hte US for my grad studies (non-mba, but still strong with the consulting firms in general). BCG interviewed noone from our class. BCG tends to be very focused on academic background and course selection. After all, they are notorious for their academic perspective. if you have an impressive resume, send that to McKinsey. They are happy iwth taking pple from all walks of life who demonstrate strong achievement. As for BCG and, to some extent, Bain, you are in an uphill battle if you aren't from a top school and/or have pedigree employers/internships in your professional exposure.By the way, i am not sure how old you are. But when i was in undergrad, I thought my resume was impressive (strong academic program non-US, national athlete & entrepreneur) then I met some "really" impressive people. That term is so relative, especially when you are applying to a top firm like BCG.Regardless, good luck.

Ok so to clarify on my 'impressive CV' comment (not, please, as to start any argument, but just so that we can all try and understand what the thought process going on at BCG is):I study undergrad economics, and came top in my year, and the uni is ranked 4th in the country. I'm fluent in German. My work experience involves an investment firm headed by a former CEO of PA consulting (not a family connection). Among a variety of activities, I play university level sport, and am on a couple of society committies, and do volunteer work.I don't mean to sound up my own ars*, and I'm sure there are people with more impressive resumes going for the same job, I just begin to wonder when all that doesn't even merit an interview.

I got rejected by BCG too but look at the stats. About 3500 applicants for 20ish jobs. If you put yourself in the top 10% of BCG applicants, there are still 349 other applicants, of which only 200 max will reach a first round interview. Of those applicants in the top 10%, I'd hazard a guess at saying that they all have top degrees from Oxbridge, possess relevant work experience (consulting experience may have hold them in better stead) and be multilingual.

Ok I have a first round interview with them next week. I think it's crucial to have the following 3 attributes.1)Outstanding academics(3A's,preferably 4+ at A-Level).Now studying in top 5 uni on course for 2.1/first.2)Relevant work experience thats shows sufficient client exposure e.g IBD in BB bank.3)Something outstanding in your EC's e.g (best uni debater in UK,best entreprenaur etc) Its quite simple really and oh I dont go to oxbridge. My best advice is if you dont get past initial screen now but may want to work for a top MC in the future, do something special/outstanding in next 2/3 years then do an MBA.Nothing in this world lands on your plate.

BCG definitely doesn't seem to be "all about Oxbridge". I have just been rejected from them without an interview and I have a 2:1 from Oxford, 5 months experience working in the House of Commons under my belt (which, though not directly relevant to consulting, seemed to impress my interviewers at McKinsey and Mercer), I speak fluent Spanish and have crewed a tall ship! I think the only person I know who works there got a first in PPE and was JCR President so I think you really do have to be superhuman in order to even get more than a casual glance.

can you please share your BCG first round experience. what sort of case did you get? what questions were asked in the interview? I am applying to BCG for the 2007 milk round and would like any info on cases you can spare. sure it would also help all those over here with a long term interest in BCG.

2 case studies.: 1st one: paper adhesive industry. CEO wants 100 % growth in 2 years. What do you think about that?2nd one: car manufacturer in Holland knows that a 6% percent decrease in price will lead to a 20% rise in demand. Should they go for it?I got very useful feedback though I was dinged. Don't rush to answer, BE SELF-CONFIDENT, 'sell yourself' and be organized. Good luck

hi sadi feel for you. got dinged after bcg london final round.......so it really sucks. btw, I am not from Oxbridge. BCG (unlike Bain and Mck), does interview quite a few people from other top schools in the UK or elsewhere.
