The US market and country is huge and there are many, many well established consultants already there. Why would you as an individual want to try to get into such an already crowded market? Why would a US client want to employ you? As an independent IMHO you stand no chance of even getting your foot in the door alone. However, if you have really special experience (than is not replicated in US) then "Associate" with a smaller existing US consultancy who have the contacts, "time zone" and can talk the language of US clients. Living in US is personal choice but even that is only a small first step to actually getting work.
