Hi,I am looking for some advice. I have spent the last 12 years in the Australian military in leadership and management positions, and have completed an MBA. I would like to move into consultancy at any level, but I find that my lack of UK and private sector experience is holding me back. Firstly why is UK experience important, and secondly should I simply try to obtain an entry position. I am a UK citizen. Thanks

If you are applying for experienced hire consultant positions, the firm needs to be able to sell you on to clients on the basis of both ability and expertise. With military experience, you may have demonstrated the ability and developed general skills, but your expertise will not be directly relevant to any common business consulting practice. Without UK business experience it makes it even harder to sell yourself on the basis of transferrable knowledge of the markets. It sounds like you would be best to apply for jobs at an entry rather than experienced consultant level.
