Due to being fed up of wheels dropping off / handles snapping / zips breaking (delete as applicable), I would like my next travel case to perform a little better than I am currently used to. Does anyone have a particularly decent case that they would recommend? A bit of a dull post, I know but some good advice could prevent a lot of suitcase related stress!

Depends on your budget. I've had a Samsonite trolley case for 6 years, it's slightly battered but in perfect working order.

In descending order of cost:TumiBriggs & RileyTravelProAll are good-quality, well made bags with good warranties. Buying cheap luggage is a false economy, both in terms of needing to replace it regularly and in terms of the embarrassment caused by seeing your smalls flung all over the tarmac at AMS when your luggage falls off the KLM baggage cart.

My laptop bags tend to get damaged or start to look tatty quickly. However my current bag - a LowePro - is very hardwearing and comfortable. I don't know if Lowe do larger suitcases and trolleybags, but it would be worth a look.

If I could be bothered I'd tell my local suitcase/ taxi firm/ train company/ airline/ hotel chain/ travel gadget company to get advertising on here to cover all you work/ work balance people.

Agree on the LowePro front. Use their camera bags. No worries. Decent cost and quality blend. Good range of options. Also, my Samsonite case has lasted very well.In the end, you gets what you pays for.

I travel every week and to be honest do not treat my luggage very carefully. My first suitcase was a Samsonite (one of these "soft-shell" things), was quite satisfied, but zipper broke after about 3 years. Then a got a TravelPro with Nylon outside (which I bought in the US for a surprisingly low price – in general luggage seems to be much cheaper over there), which again broke after about 3 years – this time the handle (and you don't get spare parts for them here in Germany). Now I have a Rimowa (the plastic one), I really like the design and seems to be though (and is surprisingly light) – lets see how it performs. In terms of laptop my company keeps buying Targus, which usually break after 1-2 years (so I wouldn't buy them personally)By the way: may consulting companies have special rates agreed with some luggage brands/dealers (I think Accenture has/had one with Tumi for insatnce) so it might be worth checking if something like this is existing in your company
