P,I got in by seeking opportunities closely linked to my particular industry - many of the big consutlancies have their services aligned by sector and they need to balance their teams by employing some sharp insider knowledge.I screwed around at A-levels and even chose my Uni (an old poly!) on the basis that I was destined to play pro rugby and decided to focus almost soley on that...until I got injured.At interview I was able to demonstrate a deep understanding of my sector and a track record of delivering tangible change. That put any doubts out of the window for my recruiters.It isn't easy as the HR depts blindly sift on educational background but who can blame them when there are so many applicants.Find a business you want to join, find out who leads the sector appropriate to you and work out the best way to approach.It isn't easy I'm afraid but what goes around comes around...should have tried harder in school!What sector are you in?

Barney,It's a familiar tale for me - I have extenuating circumstances which account for my poor academic performance.....but, ultimately I didn't perform. I basically put my results to one side, accepted I would not get a graduate job and worked my socks off. Nine years later, I have a strong track record in my chosen field. I work in the IT compliance field....I heartened to here that you made it. P
