Could someone tell me which are the strong consultancy players in capital markets and in particular derivatives space? Does it make a difference which consultancy I join if I want to develop my knowledge of the capital markets area?

m.a. partners are now part of Detica. They are still recruiting separetely, but they will slowly be integrated into the Detica FS Capital Markets practice.

Thanks for your input, I have heard of all three players in the consulting market. However, I believe they are more of a boutique consultancy with less of a global presence compared to the likes of Accenture, Deloitte etc. I am keen to explore opportunities in Asia within capital markets at some stage. Which consultancies would you advise that I look at?I also have an MBA and am keen on consultancies that value my qualification. Any advice would be appreciated.

They may not be global giants, but the three firms suggested above are definitely the ones to go for if you just want to work exclusively in the cap markets/derivs space. m.a partners has more of a transatlantic focus (NY-LON-AMS). Capco is a more 'global' with a presence in N.America, Europe and Asia - they might actually be doing more in asia now they have hooked up with Symphony. City Practs are predominantly in London - and I heard recently that they might be narrowing their focus further. The MBA is all well and good, but most recruiters will value your experience, rather than your qualifications. Every other consultant has one, so it's not as if you'll be singled out as being particularly special.

Accenture, Ma and Capco are the best to go for in this space. City Prac just laid off there business consulting team, to concentrate on what they do best - Murex implementations.

Not sure where you recieved your misinformation from , however would like to make clear that City Practitioners has over the last 18 months been stregthening its Capital Markets business and in visiting our website you will see that we work accross ALL the major asset classes and with a number of vendors not only Murex. www.citypractitioners.comRegardsStefan BasiukHead of Business Development/Marketing

Sorry, that may be my mistake. A few candidtes that had just been made redundant from City Practitioners applied for jobs with us, stating that the business consulting team was falling apart, and they had been made redundant
