I did the Brunel MBA and it's quite project-based rather than split into separate classes like marketing, finance and strategy. There are lots of teambuilding/leadership projects. For example, there's one called "Leviathan" which is a bit like the raft-building exercises that a lot of b-schools do, except on a bigger scale. You have to design and build (in reduced scale) an iron steamship. This is quite a challenging project because you'll keep running out of materials and the project scope will keep changing. You'll start off being asked for a passenger liner but end up needing a ship capable of laying telegraphic cable between Europe and America. Then, to continue the American theme, you'll go on a two week trip to Philadephia for an international business and intercultural communications project called "Bridge Building". I found this a tough project - it completely challenged the way I thought - but it was really good fun and probably the best part of the course for me.One thing I didn't expect was the amount of travel you have to undertake and I'd recommend that you budget for this. Besides the Philadelphia trip, there are a lot of field trips and "case studies in context". You end up in exotic places like museums in Swindon and Paddington station (really interesting study of the Heathrow Express's revenue optimisation model).I got a lot out of the MBA and would recommend it to anyone, especially if you are an engineer looking to make a career change. Because it's so intensively team-based, I built up an excellent network.Regards,Dom.kingdom@brunel.ac.uk
