Is LBS a really good business school. Will it help get me into top IBs, MCs, industry companies like Shell, GE, BP, J&J etc or is it only the top 10% of people at LBS who can really achieve this?!Also does it matter what your overall grade is, i.e. a pass is a pass right? or do companies delve deeper and look at particular grades?

I'm sure there are plenty of opinions on whether LBS is "good". I'd say it is good - certainly the most prestigious in the UK, and in the "world class" category. It will definitely help you get into excellent companies, assuming of course the rest of your background is suitable. WSJ is the main league table to be based solely on how much recruiters like different business schools' graduates - LBS came fourth internationally.According to the WSJ breakdown, the top three employers at the last graduation were McKinsey (12), Barcap (12), and BaH (9). So that's 33 out of a cohort of around 325 fulltimers even before taking into account hiring by smaller but no less prestigious firms. Most b-schools allow you some choice of classes so you can develop an academic concentration and companies will expect your choices to be in line with your application e.g. if you are going into banking, you should have taken a good proportion of the finance classes available and performed well in them. In that respect, grades do matter.

Yes LBS will help you get into any of those companies, as all the top banks, all the top consulting companies and all of the firms you mention actively recruit there, ie they go to the school and do the whole roadshow thing.Any student, from the top to the bottom, can get in to these companies. Grades do not matter as there is a non-disclosure policy. Networking matters more than grades. It is nice to be on the Dean's list (top 10%) but it only seems to be McKinsey and BCG etc that care.Incidentally, you may want to refine your career goals somewhat more than "banking or consulting or industry" before you write your application essays if you want to have any chance of getting in.
