Hey has anyone been following the Dragons Den? What do you think of the so called Dragons? That women with the blonde hair seems useless and like my mum if its technology shes afraid of it!! Why would someone like that be in the den. Does the young guy invest in anything at all?? The only one who seems to be clued in is Richard Farley and he seems also to be the only one who treats people with any respect. I mean I can understand they see alot of wide boys on the show but they treat some serious people who have invested alot of time and effort into there products with utter contempt. What does everyone else think?

I have been watching the program too. It is overly aggressive but I think a lot of the aggression is for TV. The public expect tension, aggression and drama which is why it’s getting such high viewing figures. The program is, after all, about Dragons and so if there were five Richard Farleys it wouldn’t work. This is, after all, how the Labour PR people made Gordon Brown interesting - by putting him at the centre of a tense and angry feud with the Prime Minister. Take away the feud and he just looks very boring. The Dragons are mainly interested in taking very high stakes in businesses that are already established or have significant assets behind them. Their standard technique is to wait for someone who actually has some orders, profit or assets and then demand 50% of the company for a pitiful cash injection which most credit card companies would finance for 0%. All it says is that the business schools were right – equity is a very expensive way of financing a business.

Clearly the main objective of the producers is entertainment. What does seem odd is that few of the victims have any business experience whatsoever. I think this is the reason the dragons loose patience. Surely it could be just as entertaining to see people with actual business experience putting forward wacky ideas? Or perhaps experience makes the ideas too conservative for TV?
