Hello to everybody, once again I'm here!I've applied for several strat houses in September, both in Uk and Italy. Unfortunately I will have to leave from mid November till early January for Mexico to finish off a couple of issues that came along throught my PhD and require a collaboration with Mexico City Univ.Is it too early considering the average time strat houses need to interview you all the way to the last one (usually 3rd stage)? I reckon that it should be late enough, but I am unexperienced in these matters. Can you please give me any piece of advice? Thanks a lot.Dennis

Lightbulb moment for 'like oh my gosh':You're being pretty offensive in your take on Dennis's note here. For one thing, Dennis mentions the applications to Italian houses as well as UK ones. Suggest anything to you?To me (seeing the wood for the trees and the bigots for the bluster), it suggests Dennis not only has the juice to get a PhD, but speaks at least one more language than English. If I were a gambler, I'd lay odds that that's one more language than you speak.DENNIS: I can't answer your question, as I don't have that knowledge. Good luck, though. Just thought I'd have a pop at l-o-m-g's absurd comments. Not the way to help each other out, which is what this forum is all about ...

My small experience in applications shows that once you have applied the long wait is until the first stage, progressing from there seems to be quite rapid. However the any last stages with group tests might need waiting for to get enough people together.Larger houses I am sure will let you have a gap in the application if you have a good reason.Smaller companies might be able to process you quicker if they are only recruiting a few.(I gather BCG are not recruiting for experienced hires until November. So you will miss out there.)Like I said I don't have much experience to base this advice on, so could be wrong! But I hope it helps!D

Dennis,I suggest delaying your trip to Mexico till February or March, just to be safe. Interviews are usually conducted between Oct-Dec, with job offers extended in Dec-Jan.

Thanks a lot guys for your piece of advice! I will try to delay my trip, but I think it's going to be hard, several scientists are involved in the project...now I start feeling a little pressure about this...I hope everything will be fine in the end...PS:Thanks Boxershorts, ihih...and yes...my mother tongue is Italian, and I speak Spanish and French as well...and I got my PhD, Master and BSc in Physics not in English Literature...and throughout my 300-page PhD thesis my examiner, Nobel Laureate in 2003 (British), made only 12 corrections...not too bad after all...well...next time I will try not to write any text in this forum while my mum and girlfriend speak to me on SKype in Italian and Spanish at the same time...sorry "like oh my gosh" for bothering you...ihih
