it is 3rd tier - just look at the guardian and times rankings!

How many tiers do you think there are?If other people have prompted you to raise the question, then how many tiers do they think there are?Can we assume that tier one has not been defined by yourself/or the people doing the labelling? Is it going to be worth defining?Have you considered putting London University?I'd certainly still see it as a plus and apologise that I'm not the decision maker on this. -----------------------------------------------------My own studies at London University have only consisted of one day of special lectures as part of an A'Level a good many years ago. There were demonstrators trying to get a Cabinet Minister fired. The main lecture was even better to my mind! -----------------------------------------------------

Trying to tier universities in such a way is inaccurate. It is very likely that different companies have different regards for various universities. Obviously companies are likely to look at Oxbridge and lets say "Eastbourne polytechnic" differently but they are unlikely to differentiate between Russell group universities (i.e. the top 16 universities in the country) too much. Also some departments in a 3rd tier university for instance maybe better than the reciprocal found at lets say Cambridge. It’s more about the degree class you obtained, what else you did such as captain of the sky diving team and your personal attributes. I have always found to use the place where somebody went to university as a classification for success in consulting as rather dubious.

Fairly anglo-centric view of universities by all concerned. By most people's standards, Edinburgh and St Andrews are consistently second tier universities.

RH does not stand with the mighty redbricks (Manchester, Bristol...) or with the sixties stars (Bath, York...). It isn't even one of the best colleges in the University of London and it certainly isn't in the Russell Group. It is instead a faintly obscure but fairly worthy institution. A lot of people won't even have heard of it and if you asked people to compile their own list of the best places few would think to include it unprompted.
