Hello everybody, this is my first post on this website. I have recently graduate from University with a 2:1 degree in Business.At the moment I am looking for a job and after much deliberation, have decided that consultancy is probably best suited to me. Do you have any advice on how to go about getting a first job- my CV is relatively limited experience wise.Thanks in advance,Adam

I think it would be hard to get into the strat firms such as McKinsey, BCG and Bain unless you have been to Oxbridge. The big 4 consultancies hire graduates and it would be worth applying to them this winter via the graduate recruitment round. If this doesn't succeed I'd try and get into one of the FTSE 100 graduate training programs or go into the city and then try later via the experienced hire route.

Based on your reply I am not sure which companies to apply for, I would rather go into consultancy now rather than later with more experience.Which consultancy companies are respected in the City, but are not considered to be the top firms such as Accenture and McKinsey?Thanks in advance.

Accenture are in a different market to McKinseys- they are not a strategy house.Try Accenture, Deloitte, PA, EYBAS, Atos Origin, KPMG, IBM BCS... all respected firms, though with different strengths- but at grad level the important thing is to get in and onto a training programme.Also research sites like Drjob for guides to grad training schemes- they run articles on what consulting is, where companies specialise etc

My problem is that my a-levels only total 280 UCAS points, whereas Accenture, Deloitte etc are asking for 320. I have a 2:1 degree from Durham, but feel that they will over look this when applying. Therefore I seek companies which are still well regarded, perhaps not to the same level, but will ask for a sllightly less academic background.I would ideally like to work in either Cambridge or London, can anybody suggest some companies which I may be able to get to interview with?Thanks.
