Hi guys,I'm looking around at some options for after I graduate from my Master's degree and came across Baker Tilly. To be honest, I don't know much about them except they seem to be a tier 2 firm. Their marketing material seems to paint them in a good light (always does), but my real question is, does anybody know much about the accounting/business advisory service side of their business? i.e. reputation/type of clients etc.If I'm finding it difficult to get into one of the 'big 4' firms, would this be a good place to start and then jump ship to a big four firm? Additionally, I would be looking to eventually get into industry (preferably FMCG) and thus need the opportunity to build contacts and then enter into a good management position in a firm. Would Baker Tilly be able to provide me with this opportunity? I've had a look on-line, but so far things have been slightly inconclusive. Any advice would be much appreciated. Many thanks,Tom

I don't know what they're like to work for, bit I've worked with a bunch of their accounting partners (mostly the rsm tenon lot, who they recently merged with) and they are very very good. On the pricey side for a lot of my clients, but everyone I referred gave glowing feedback. On top if that they are very nice and probably good fun to work for.

One word answer - why?I can't really understand why you would you go and work for a Tier 2 firm. IIRC only one FTSE100 firm is audited by a non Big 4 firm. The Big 4 are not so sexy or selective that anyone should want to set their sights any lower:- If you want to do audit it's a no-brainer- If you want to do corporate finance then the Big 4 is already looking at fairly minor stuff in the main (the bug stuff is almost always done by investment banks) so it depresses me to think about the level of stuff Tier 2 must do- Yes there are certain standards for entry and.they get thousands of applications but they also have something like 3 - 4,000 graduate places available per year and in terms of applications per place these are some of the least competitive schemes going
