Present standing up, nothing less dynamic than a bag of potatoes slouching in a chair. No animations in your slide pack, the animation should be coming from you presenting. You don't want to be remembered as the guy with that fancy gimmick of stuff moving around on the screen.Catch their attention with an unexpected angle or a slightly provocative opening - or a touch of humour could also work depending on your audience's style. And as Camster says, be prepared... know the flow of your presentation, what's on the slides and in which order. Too many people pause their speech, click through and are then completely surprised by which slide appears next.
