Hi, I work (as a Technology consultant) in London for a specialist consulting firm. However, in the longer term I would like to move and settle in the US.Is there any consulting firm which transfers employees from here to their US office(s)? Alternately, is there any company that recruits people in the UK for their US operations.Many Thanks for your response.

Getting a visa to work in the USA is tricky, and many US employers are reluctant to hire UK nationals unless there's a very specific skillset that's unavailable in the local market. It's much, much easier to get a job with a multinational consultancy and transfer internally. The big 4, in particular, are good for this sort of move.

VI, thanks for ur response. I think u r right...getting work permit (H1B), especially from any good,reputed company is bit tricky, though not impossoble.But, even with Big 4, do they really transfer people across the continent. Would they not have to get a work permit for the person they want to transfer to US?Do u know people who got transferred this way?

Yes- I did! I'm at PA- they don't as a habit mocve lots of people around, but if you can make a business case and are in a practise that is growing, you can(incidentally, I came back after 3 years- consulting life in the US is a pretty hard one- long hours, lots of travel (as everywhere is miles away and most major firms are in places you wouldn't want to live) and next to no employment law protection, so if you have a bad 6 months they fire you. Didn't happen to me, but got to me after a while and wanted to work in the UK environment. Great experience, but shouldn't be approached with rose-tinted glasses!

The Big Four (and other large organisations) have arrangements in place that enable them to move people about between geographic locations with a minimum of red tape. They don't need to demonstrate a lack of local expertise in order to move you provided it isn't a permanent move.
